DAY TRIPS
Venues for our monthly day trips will be decided at short notice dependant on water levels & weather conditions.
Three of our favourite trips, which we will certainly do, if it’s been raining for a few days beforehand, are :
THE RIVER WANDLE … A Five mile paddle through urban Merton. Fast moving water, twisting river, playspots,
Rocks, shopping trollies and motorbikes in River to negotiate and finish off paddling thru a 700m pitch dark tunnel.
An urban gem, very local, about a two hour paddle, totally different to any thing else we do, always enjoyed by all !
THE CHELMER … A longer day out, paddling five miles of the Chelmer Navigation in Essex.
We start of with genteel tea and cakes in the Riverside tearooms, then we’ve five different weirs to shoot and play on
all about a mile apart, the horseshoe weir, the sloping weir, the vertical weir, etc as well as a slalom through the trees
on the fast moving mill stream. Suitable for all levels of paddler, maximum adrenaline and enjoyment for all !
ABBEY STREAM & CHERTSEY WEIR
We start off paddling up the mighty River Thames near Laleham. Then it’s off down the rarely paddled backwoods
of the Abbey River. Enjoy exploring this narrow backwater in places only wide enough for one Kayak.
We slide down a rolling weir and about two hours from the start we arrive at Chertsey Weir.
If it’s been raining then the weir should be working well so a chance to learn various skills on the challenging,
fast moving and frothy waters before a hot chocolate or a beer in the Riverside pub, to end the day.
